Day 2 - Jan 29 Friday

Just minutes after the crash!!
Urgent Trip UPDATE: With all adventures like this, there are risk and always a
chance of a set back. Today we had one of those. While stopping to refuel at
DeTour, Michigan - George Pattullo went to restart his snowmobile
(1999 Skidoo MXZ with less than 700 miles), the throttle stuck, resulting in
the machine taking off at a high rate of speed, without him. Just clearing people
standing around, crossing a highway it hit a parked car head on and veered off and
struck a restaurant. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the snowmobile was totally
destroyed! George says all donations would greatly be appreciated!
Journey in a Nutshell
We left St. Ignace early Friday morning about 8:00 A.M. We traveled north until we reached Hwy 134, and then took trails east, passing by Hessel and Cedarville, Michigan. At a checkpoint in Cedarville a driver stopped and introduced himself as Steve Fader (formally of Caro)  We got into DeTour about 12:20 P.M., as we described on the home page, we stopped to refuel when George's snowmobile was destroyed. It was decided that the remaining 6 of us would continue onto Thessalon, Ontario, Canada. We re-called our chase van, which was already in Canada. George contacted Stevens Cycle Center in Bay City, Michigan and they instantly got another MXZ 600 prepped and with the help of Russ and Terry (Pattullo & Sons Sports Mechanic's) got the sled to Gaylord, where George and Tim Cockerill (Chase-ono) picked it up and arrived in Thessalon, Ont. at 9:00 P.M. Thanks again to the great crew at Stevens Cycle Center and Pattullo & Sons Sports......

Image Trek

The 7 - 1999 Pattullo2000 participants are from left to right:
John Putnam (Marlette, MI), Robert Herron (Marlette, MI), Eugene & Joanne Putnam (Marlette, MI), George Pattullo (Caro, MI.), Pete Pattullo (Longview, Texas) and Betty Pattullo (Caro, MI.)
The remaining 6 participants, take the ferry to Drummond Island,
the ice was a little to thin to cross here!
We are crossing a "Ice bridge" from St. Joseph Island to Bruce Mines, Canada,  about 10 miles. In total we traveled over 30 miles today across frozen northern Lake Huron. We were told, that it was at least 6 inches thick...... that was re-assuring!
