Day 10 - Feb 6 (Saturday)

Person of the Day: Betty Pattullo, of Caro,  Michigan
Betty is one of the founders of the Pattullo2000 snowmobile safari. Betty and George have been doing this for 15 years. She is the fundraiser for the event, raising over $80,000 over the years for the American Cancer Society, and in recent years FAME. She is also a cancer survivor, and was just recently named Citizen of the Year for Caro Michigan. She keeps up really good for an old broad, although she is afraid of driving across the ice. She will run you over if you are going to slow when crossing ice. Her most exciting moment of the trip was getting the chance to run over George, as he was laying in the middle of the trail. She missed him... going off the trail instead, burying her snowmobile in 3 feet of snow. It was a close call.

Journey in a Nutshell
We left Hayden, Ont. about 8:30 A.M. we got about 6 inches of snow and kept getting the chase van stuck, trying to get to breakfast. We rode east to Echo Bay and then crossed over to St. Joseph Island and then on to Drummond Island. After taking the ferry to Detour, we rode west to Cedarville, Hessel and onto St. Ignace, Michigan. There was so much traffic on the trail today, we saw more snowmobiles on the trail today, then we saw all week in Canada.

Image Trek

Here we are out east of Sault St. Marie, Ont. looking at eagle nest, we saw about a dozen nest, but no eagles today...
Today, we crossed back from Canada to Michigan, riding across a ice bridge from St. Joseph Island to Drummond Island. They put in trees, forming a path, you could get lost pretty easy out here without the treeline to guide your way...
Back in the USA.... Here we are waiting for the ferry, to take us to DeTour, Michigan from Drummond Island. While we were waiting, George climbed in a school bus to get out of the cold and fell asleep.
