2003 Highlighted Technologies

2003 Ski-doo MXZ REV 600 H.O.

The 2003 Ski-doo MXZ REV is a radically new design for snowmobiles The key differences are the riding position and handling. The overall perception of the riders on this trip are positive! The REV does an excellent job of handling the bumps and rough trails... in fact all of the riders have commented that they actual look forward to some rough trails, because...... its fun! We have had some challenges on this trip, one of the REV's had a factory defect with an electrical system short that blew a key component "stator". A wiring harness was routed over the frame where it rubbed on a sharp edge, resulting in the insulation being wore off and shorting out. (Click here to see picture)

XM Satellite Radio & GPS

This year we are trying two new technologies:
1) The first is a new GPS unit from Magellan, it is their Meridian Color and shows all the roads, even a lot of the trails through the woods, gas stations, hospitals, rivers, lakes, motels, etc.... The unit is easy to use and  has worked flawlessly, even plotting our actual route. (Click here to see example)

1) The second is XM satellite radio... It has over 100 stations to listen to while you ride down the trail. It has worked GREAT! I even listen to Mr. Powell's speech at the UN on Iraq on FOX radio... I have been listening to KISS FM in  LA, the Comedy channel and Old Time Radio classics, like the Green Hornet, Dragnet, and the Shadow.... I find it keeps me informed and entertained as I ride down the trail.... There was some concern that the satellite signal would not reach this far north into Canada... I have only had less then 2 minutes of total accumulated time that I did not get a signal... mostly in deep valleys or a few tunnels.
